It advertises as a "four star plus" quality hotel but it is far from it. Although the people at the front desk are willing to help, they all seem college trainees. You would expect the service, personality and treatment of the quality they say to be. The Wellington hotel which is really close to this one (also has a four star rating) is way superior, has concierge, well appointed staff. So my recommendation is to rate the hotel as what it really is, a 3 star, nothing more. During this trip we also stayed at another Petit Palace hotel in Seville (the Petit Palace Santa Cruz) and the same comments apply.

I stayed for three nights in this "high tech" hotel for work. My secretary booked this hotel for me. It is an utterly batty hotel. I arrived late at night after a very rough flight. Imagine my surprise when the corridor that led to my room resembled an aircraft in an emergency i.e. dark with blue floorlights to show the way. That evening, the motion sensors in the corridor weren't working, so I had to rely on the floor lights (and some blind arm waving) to lead me to my room. Surely this is against some sort of regulation? "High tech". There was no clock. The phone had no phone numbers on, or near, it so I had to look up how to call reception. The room service menu didn't have the room service number on it - so I had to call reception to be put through. Movies on demand? Nope. Internet in the room - possibly. There was an old, laptop in the corner of the room. It looked dirty. I didn't want to touch it. Minibar? Check. Half drunk bottles of things in it from the previous occupant? Check. Credit card operated safe? Oh yes. Light switch to the loo? Under the reading lamp on the side of the bed furthest away from the bathroom. Obviously. Will you feel like an idiot, switching each one of the numerous, unlabelled light switches to find this out. Yes. The worst thing about this hotel was the absolutely awful, awful smell of the room. At least one complete bottle of air freshener was sprayed prior to my arrival. The smell acted like a vat of smelling salts. About to fall asleep? The smell will jerk you awake. Will you start to worry that the reason they used so much air freshener is that the previous occupant vomited in the room (perhaps due to half drinking each bottle in the mini bar)? Yes. If you were brought up on Fawlty Towers, happen to be in Madrid and feel a nostalgic need to remember things past, then stay here. All others, go elsewhere.
