We used this site to book a weekend break and chose Tryp Cibeles after we read the reviews. We were not disappointed. The hotel entrance was just off the main road Gran Via, about 150 meters away from the Gran Via metro station. To get there from the airport was so straight forward and cheap, just 2 euros from the airport. There was a guard in the ground floor entrance, stopping non hotel users to enter (a good idea, considering the hotel was too close to the main road). The reception was on the 1st floor, check in was quick and information regarding breakfast and facilities were given to us instantly. We asked for a quiet room and the gentleman at the desk was more than willing to offer as he admitted it would be noisy in the weekend outside. Breakfast was good, buffet style with a lot of choices from cold meat to hot English fried ups. Services were good in general but most of the staff could not speak English so it was a nightmare to communicate with them sometimes. Check out was efficient and quick. We would like to come back again.
We had a horrible experience and changed hotels after 2 nights. We arrived and there were ladies of the night and associates right on the corner of the street to greet us. The security guard greeted us on the main floor and sent up upstairs to the lobby. The staff were not friendly, and even more so when we came down to request another room. We walked into our room and were overwhelmed by smoke as if someone just smoked a pack of smokes eventhough we requested a non-smoking room.
The one staff member we dealt with was very rude and ignored our requests. So we informed them that we will be checking out after the 2nd night. They informed us that that we could not do that and that any cancellations had to be done through Venere and that Venere would charge the hotel fees to my credit card (eventhough we showed them our files from Venere that stated otherwise).
The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are spacious for Europe standards. It is unfortunate that it is located on a rough street. I would be leary about staying here with kids. The buffet was really good. Too bad about the service and poor service.

Of all the three-star and four-star hotels my family stayed at during a recent European trip, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel the most. The location is outstanding. It is half a block off the Gran Via. It is a two-clock walk to the Callao metro station, but we didn't use it as we walked to every major tourist attraction except the Prado, which is on the opposite end of downtown. The shopping near the hotel was excellent. The breakfast was generous and varied. Some guests have complained about street noise. Our room overlooked the hyper-busy Gran Via, and when the double windows were closed, the room was silent. Our street-front room room was large, light-filled and superclean, as was the bathroom. This hotel was an island of cleanliness and quiet. I'd stay there again.
The hotel was smaller than I had anticipated. There were no adequate lounge facilities in which to relax. The room was clean and tidy. The staff were indifferent and showed little interest in responding to any queries for information. There were no maps of Madrid available, no information on tours or places of interest. We were directed to a tourist office in the city. Disappointing for a first time tourist to Madrid.
