Air-conditioning does not work!

We paid extra for a "renovated" room (88 EURO a night), however, the air-conditioning temperature could not be changed in the room. It was too hot and we couldn't sleep. It was 40 degrees in madrid in June! When speaking to reception about this, the men on the desk were extremely rude and un-sympathetic about it, and simply said that the whole hotel was fixed at this temperature. Aside from the air-conditioning and the appalling service at this hotel, I would recommend it for a good location and clean rooms. I guess, it depends what is important to you...

The hotel is in an excellent location for great restaurants and bars as is situated directly behind Plaza Santa Ana. We had a room at the front of the hotel which meant I hardly slept for two nights as it's really noisy (bar across the road). Unfortunately the road was being resurfaced which meant it was noisy first thing too. The rate I got was very good E73/night. Would recommend a great place for a cheap stay in Madrid but there are some much nicer hotels nearby so may be worth paying a little extra. The breakfast was pretty rubbish and isn't inclusive so would recommend eating out in the morning.

My wife and I trusted that our travel agent books us a "good" hotel for our honeymoon. After arriving to Madrid's airport, we took a taxi to the "Hotel Ingles" and stopped at the hotel's desk to register and to ask for our room. After the paperwork was signed, I conversed with the manager, an old gentleman, in a friendly and candid manner. I told him that my wife and I just got married, and that this was our honeymoon. He replied "pedantically", and I emphasize this, for no aparent reason and in a rude tone of voice, that he is not intersted in the details of my stay there. He also added that for whatever reason I was in the hotel, that it was my business and not his. Boy, Was that rude! specially comming from a high employee of the hotel like he was. I felt insulted, and disrespected for his coldness, lack of empathy, and lack of good manners. Another desk clerck was beside him, and I was surprised and angry to see that he also approved his boss' attititude. What is wrong with these people. I did nothing to deserve his attitude. His attitude took me completely by surprise. He left me a bad impression of the Hotel Ingles and sour first impression of Spain. I only stayed that night. The time it took me to find a friendlier hotel. This is my first impression of Spain! Thank's God I discovered that the Spaniards are not as rude as this fellow.
