"Hotel puerta de Toledo saved the day!!" Posted: Mon, Nov 23 2009

What would have been a disaster, ended up being a wonderful last day in Madrid.
First, my luggage never made it to Europe. One bag somhow made it around our southern states; I still can't figure that one out . I was searched from the time I arrived at the airport in Detroit, onto the International flight from Chicago, finally from Germany onto Spain. A total of six times; shoes and all.
Needless to say I wasn't very happy to find out, not only did my luggage not make it, but they even ended up on a totally different airline carrier. Go figure. My first nine days in Spain was spent outside of the city in a hotel that was not so friendly. When I finally did make it back to the city I couldn't wait to get to the Hotel Puerta de Toledo. You see, these people have been taking care of my reservations for over a year now. I've had the pleasure of staying at their hotel for four different trips this past year. The last two however, have been for only a day. This is because my business takes me outside of the city far enough that it's impossible for me to travel back in forth everyday on business. I love the way they treat this American. From the bar next door to the fine dinning in the lower level of the hotel. The gentleman that work at the front desk are some of the most friendly men I've ever met. I only want to stay at this hotel when I visit this country and the city of Madrid. I hope to see them all next month for the Christmas Holidays. Chao

Though I told the reception desk at the first evening that I needed the internet access, I couldn't do my business job during the whole stay, though it was promised to me every day. My impression was that the hotel didn't make a big effort in having the access repared because they thought it wasn't necessary for tourists.
I room was extremly loud, the lift made a terrific bam- noise when the door closed and you could hear returning guests through the whole third floor.
Very frindly welcome at the reception. The hotel is at a safe location and right next to a bus stop. It is a ten minute walk from the Royal Palace. To go to the Prado, it took a 10 minute bus ride and a 10 minute walk. We could easily walk back to hotel at night from Huerta or similar locations. To get to the hotel, we took a taxi from the airport and it cost a little above €30.The room and the bathroom were clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast offered cheese, ham, eggs and fruit and was fairly satisfying. The hotel fulfilled our expectations in providing the basics (location, cleanliness, comfort, and breakfast). Overall, this is a good value for money hotel.
Excellent accomadation for the price. Only bad comment would be the hardness of the pillow and only one was provided.
Also would have liked tea making facility in the room. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.
