1.7We booked this hotel for our return/lay-over leg back from Barcelona to Madrid, hoping for a comfortable stay closer to the heart of the city (hotel during the first Madrid leg was north of the main area). Sadly enough the Petit Palace has seen it's better days, and what we ended up with was a shabby, dirty, run-down hotel that smelled of mold.
It's a shame, really, because the Petit Palace IS in a great location. It's simply in need of MUCH repair - the computer in the common area was broken, the wooden floors were chipped, warmed, and/or missing pieces. The room itself was tiny & cramped with somewhat rotted flooring and walls along the shower. The toilet stunk and would nearly tip over if you leaned too far to the side (honest visual, I know). The outlets in the room were on the fritz and I had to repeatedly wiggle the TV cord to make the set turn on. In addition there was no option for A/C in the room - just warm air - despite the fact that it had been rather warm outside that day.
In summary, the Petit Palace is a shell of what was probably a once nice hotel. I would rank it below 90% of the hostels I have stayed in. The sad thing is, this COULD be a great place with a lot of work.
If you're in Madrid, look further north. There are better hotels with better service, rooms, breakfast, etc. for much cheaper.
