Agumar - Madrid, Spain     

This was a disgrace! In fact, although we had paid in advance for 3 nights, we moved out and found a new hotel the same afternoon we booked in! No double beds; unhelpful staff. This is a hotel to avoid!!!!!

my wife had stayed there twice before, and she highly recommended the hotel again for our visit together. i found the place very conveniently located, both for its proximity to public transport (bus stop to downtown in front of the hotel, subway stop a 5 minutes' walk) and for its location on one of the main approaches to madrid (just follow A-3 towards atocha station), which makes it easy to reach by car as well (there is an underground garage for guests at ? 19 per day). the room on the third floor was very quiet, as it faced a side alley with no traffic. (i believe those who complain about the noise in a room facing paseo reina cristina, however! this is a very busy thoroughfare!) it was also very clean and kept shipshape throughout our stay. breakfast was buffet-style and enormous, though not exactly cheap at ? 13.50 p.p., the bar and snack bar were okay and good value; we did not eat at the restaurant, as there are lots of excellent restaurants a short subway ride away. the staff did not go out of their way, but were as friendly and helpful as could be expected. on our next trip to madrid we will certainly stay there again.
