This was our second time staying here and we always choose this hotel in Madrid. It is close to our relatives there, has a suite that is large enough to have our entire family (4) and has a great breakfast. From a safety standpoint, you can't feel safer. It is close to an embassy and the guardia civil are ALWAYS around the end of the street. The rooms are older style elegant and have very nice older furniture. The bathrooms are enormous and they provide all the amenities expected, except for irons. The staff is very helpful and went out of their way to help us when my wife felt sick one day. We love it.

If you want a quiet, pleasant stay in Madrid with a minimum of fuss this is a great choice. Not a full service hotel, but fairly spacious, pleasant rooms centrally located on a quiet street near Plaza Colon. The neighborhood is swarming with guardia civil and cops because the Interior Ministry is nearby, so security is the least of your problems unless all the uniforms make you uncomfortable. Nice rooms, great bathrooms, good air conditioning. For us, the key was that the hotel was very quiet. We slept like logs-- often tough to do with the noisy, late-night revelries common in Madrid. Reasonable garage parking at 9 euros a night. No wi-fi but a computer is set up in the lobby for guests to access the internet for a small charge (1 euro for an hour). Amiable staff patiently tolerated my butchery of the Spanish language. They only gave one bad bit of advice: don't ask them where to go for sea food. Their recommendation, the Infanta Mercedes, was terrible. In sum, a very pleasant hotel for people who don't need to be fussed over and prefer to be left alone to enjoy some peace and quiet at the end of the day.
