We've recently returned from a weekend in Madrid and were fortunate enough to have stayed at the Intercontinental. The hotel itself is very clean and the room we stayed in was fantastic. On returning from a shopping trip on our first day we arrived back in our room to find an ice bucket with a chilled bottle of Brut Cava, a box of chocolates, fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate and a welcome note. Nice touch. Later on that evening we were undecided as to where to go to eat so we spoke with the concierge who recommended a traditional Spanish restaurant and we ended up having one of the best steaks we've ever had. The doormen were polite, friendly and very helpful, in fact, every member of staff that we encountered in the hotel could not do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. With regards to location the hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from Serrano and Goya (excellent shopping areas). The breakfast was also very good. Being a five star hotel extras are not cheap - we paid 11 EUR for two bottles of still water in the bar. The weekend was a treat and you can't expect things to be cheap when staying in a five star establishment. We would highly recommend this to any person looking to stay in Madrid whether it be for a couple of nights or longer and whether for business or pleasure. All in all, a lovely experience.

My husband and I stayed at the Intercontinental for 2 days in early April. The hotel was nice, but we had a room that overlooked the lower rooftop heating or a/c vents, so absolutely no view. We also had 2 twin beds pushed together, and I'm pretty sure that's not what I booked. The room and bathroom were very nice. Breakfast was excellent, but 69 Euros for the 2 of us each morning. It was quite a walk to get to the center of the city. If I were going back for sight-seeing, I'd try to find something a little closer to the city center.
