Hotel Baia Di Puolo - Massa Lubrense, Italy 

This hotel was very nice, clean, our room was comfortable, big with a nice view on the beach. The personnel is very friendly and very helpful. Without a car, it is sometimes difficult. A free shuttle can easily take you to Sorrento. The food was simple but excellent, service was very good. It is an ideal hotel to stay for some days. It is nice to get back from excursions and find a quiet hotel with only the sound of the sea. I forgot to say that the owners are great people. It is a real italian family hotel. We will certainly go back.

The hotel was good for the price, although the directions were a bit misleading. The website we used described it as 2km from the centre of Sorrento- as the crow flies maybe! It was a good 10 minute drive down winding roads as the hotel is located next to a beach. You couldn't walk to the hotel with bags. We called the hotel from Naples to tell them what time we'd be arriving at the train station and they sent a car to pick us up for free, very helpful. Otherwise you'd definitely need a taxi. It's nice and tucked away, but there's really nothing but the beach and a couple of cheap restaurants down there if you want to do anything but sunbathe and swim. The hotel has a section of private beach, which gets a bit pebbly towards the sea. It's nice to relax on, but you do have to hire sun beds and umbrellas. The room was clean with air conditioning and a small en suite, the shower did soak the floor, but at least it was tiled. The bed was 2 singles pushed together. Despite the website we used claiming all rooms have a view of the sea and mountain we had a view of a small internal court yard- not pretty, which left our room quite dark. The restaurant was adequate, but nothing special. We only stayed for 2 nights, and the second night we ate in Sorrento. The hotel provides a free mini bus service into town, but for some reason there is no service between 10.30-16.30 into town. The return buses are a bit sparse too, with no service between 17.30-23.15. So if you have young kids you might need a taxi. But the service was prompt, free and useful. Overall it was good value for the cheap price we paid, but if I was returning to Sorrento I'd want a hotel closer to the town.
