Hotel Edda Akureyri - Akureyri, Iceland 3 star hotel

Address: Eyrarlandsvegi 28, Akureyri, 600
Hotel Edda Akureyri details:  This hotel is in a modern building in the heart of Akureyri, a charming town on a fjord on the north coast of Iceland.

The Hotel Edda Akureyri is a student residence for much of the year, but operates as a hotel between 14th June and 27th August. It offers comfortable, spacious, clean accommodation at reasonable rates within walking distance of the centre of town. With good value, non-smoking accommodation and a convenient location, the hotel is a good base for exploring all that Akureyri and Iceland’s northern coast has to offer.

The hotel’s restaurant has a capacity of around 150 people and serves a buffet dinner as well as an à la carte menu.

A small café is situated in the reception area and, on sunny days, guests can relax on the veranda.

Location

The hotel is in the heart of Akureyri, within easy walking distance of the very centre of the town. The hotel is next to an outdoor swimming pool and close to Akureyri’s renowned botanical gardens. The shore is also just a short distance from the hotel.

Akureyri has a number of museums, including the Folk Museum, Natural History Museum and Nonnahús, which was the home of Jón Sveinsson, a well known Icelandic children's author. The house is now a museum containing 19th century furniture and the author’s artifacts.

Listagil, or the Akureyri Arts Centre, is a Street of the Arts created out of old industrial buildings. The centre contains varied activities and establishments, such as the Akureyri Art Gallery, Akureyri School of Art, artists' studios, exhibition halls, restaurants and a visitors' studio for the benefit of travelling artists.

Akureyri is a good base for touring the north of Iceland. The region around Akureyri offers lots to see, including historic places such as Grund, Möðruvellir and Laufás.

The hotel is located on a hill above Akureyri city centre, just 5 minutes walking. it has a large parking for free and that's very good. The room was quite big, but in the little kitchen there was no cutlery, plates or glasses!!! The bathroom had no soap dispenser and they gave to us only one (too little) soap gel. The bathroom had no windows and the aeration wasn't good, so it remained wet and sticky for all the time. The pillows were really too thin so we had to ask for other 2 ones. There's also a buffet restaurant in the hotel but there is no great variety.
