We just returned from a 4-day holiday at the Vala Mesquida Suites. Highs: million dollar views, great beach, nice facility, lots of pools, lots to do on the resort for kids, sea view, big suite w/huge belcony on sea side, kitchenette, good value for the money through Expedia, free parking, and conveniant little stores across the street Lows: on-site restaurants offer mediocre menus and service, nothing to do right outside resort, no place to ride a bicycle, limited hours for "clubhouse" where you have to go for beach towels/mini golf clubs/bicycle rentals, apparant overall lack of customer service ethic evident in most employees, and room air conditioner didn't work. 2 examples of the mediocre customer service: 1) We went to the Italian restaurant for dinner and sat at one of the seaside tables with a view. After sitting there for 15 minutes a waitress came up. I ordered a margarita and my wife and kids ordered Coke. The margarita arrived in a 3-oz martini glass. I asked for a menu and we were told we had to sit inside to eat. So we went inside to a table and sat for 15 minutes before someone came and took our drink order and gave us menus. We waited another 15 minutes to order. No garlic bread was available at this "Italian" restaurant. Our food arrived quickly and was decent, but no one bothered to check in the ensuing hour whether or not we wanted a refill on our drinks or not. After 30 minutes and several attampts to get the waitresses attention, I finally had to get up a ask for the bill. We sat there another 15 minutes. The waitresses were curt and snotty. 2) We checked out mini golf clubs at the clubhouse (which is only open a few hours a day) and gave a $10 Euro deposit. They closed at 6pm. We played until after six and found the clubhouse locked up. So we went ot the front desk and said we wanted to return the clubs for our deposit back. The receptionist said "sorry, you'll have to come back tomorrow morning." We said, "sorry, but we're leaving for the airport at 6am." The receptionist got on the phone and called someone and said to meet them at the clubhouse at 8. By this time, we're getting ready to go eat dinner and its 7:15. We didn't make it back to the clubhouse and got hosed out of our deposit. Both instances are examples of how a business supposedly in the business of serving customers could have done better. Bottom line: Satsifactory, but the poor customer service has to be driving a lot of customers away from considering the Cala Mesquida for a second stay. Very doubtful I'll be coming back again.
