A very good hotel, clean, modern and airy. Some rooms (incl ours) have balconies. Staff knowledgeable, multi-lingual and friendly. Excellent restaurant and easy access to a range of other restaurants, bars and shops. Old Town is about a 15 minute walk for the more sprightly or 6 euros in a taxi. Hotel easily accessible from the airport in a cab for around 18 euros. Guggenheim Museum about 10 mins walk. A very enjoyable stay.
The employees at the desk need more training. Some were borderline rude.
The rooms had insufficient lighting, especially over the bed. Difficult to read.
Otherwise, hotel was very good.
Very comfortable room in a very quiet area but with easy access to public transport towards the centre - 5 minutes to the metro, 15 minutes to the tram. The breakfast is a bit of a rip-off, but the spread was excellent and a good start to the day, especially if a late lunch was in prospect.
We spent six nights at this place during July 2008. The online booking directly with the hotel was easy and we got everything we booked, no problems. The location is central and about 10 minutes' walk (at our speed, although a fit young person could do it in 5) from the nearest metro station, also called Indautxu. The hotel service couldn't be faulted and our room was nice enough, with a view over a quiet side street. We had a small medical emergency while in residence and that was sorted out professionally, with prompt paramedic attendance organised by the reception staff. The restaurant is very pleasing, with attentive service and nice little complimentary appetisers at dinner. The food was quite rich for my taste and I would have welcomed some vegetables. At breakfast there is a wonderful hot and cold buffet, with everything one could possibly wish for. I doub't we'll ever return to Bilbao but Hoteles Silken is definitely on my list for any future trips to Spain.
