Hotel Dorer - Schonwald, Germany     

We have just got back from a few days holiday at the Hotel Dorer. The hotel is located in a quite area, in close proximity to the Black Forest's many attractions. Breakfast in the hotel was great, good quality and ample choice, the individual candle heaters at the tables were well-thought of. Rooms were clean and decorated in a traditional style giving them a homely and warm touch. We stayed in a suite and it had all necessary amenities including umbreallas, shoehorn, bathrobs etc. The attention to detail was quite impressive.The hotel has a spa indoor swimming pool which was ideal for relaxing. The staff was very warm and attentive. We found the restaurant a little expensive and dishes were a bit salty, however it was good quality. Not many choices of restaurants exist in the neighbourhood. The chances of finding a decent place to dine are quite slim. However there is a very nice restaurant/bar nearby. The only downside of the room was the absence of a bathtub when we had expected it. Overall it was a great hotel and we would certainly recommend it.

Hotel Dorer is in a beautiful setting. We arrived to spitting snow, but enjoyed our short time in this small town nonetheless. Despite several signs and our maps, we had a little trouble finding the hotel. The staff was welcoming; the room was nice; the linens were above average; and the breakfast was one of the best on our trip. We had eaten a big lunch the day we drove in, so we opted not to have dinner there. Because we were there before ski season but after the temps were low enough and the clouds heavy enough to make hiking less than enjoyable, there was not a lot to do in Schonwald, but I would give only high marks to the hotel itself.
