I booked the Omni because of the location (conference hotel near by was sold out). While I have stayed in many hotels before for business and pleasure my only experience with the Omni was in Chicago. The warm welcome of Christmas soon disappeared when I entered my room. I've experienced small bathrooms before, but this was one for the record. The tile was broken and there was mold in the shower. I could barely fit between the tub and sink. I immediately requested another room. The hotel staff was responsive and I was moved to another room. This time, the bath was larger, but the blinds looked liked someone painted over them to coverup the mold! There is no room to use any items on the sink and store anything. There was also a note in the room that said some items were missing because the hotel is undergoing renovations. I was expecting more at $199 for Friday and Saturday and $279 for Sunday-Tuesday nites. While the staff generally was helpful and the hotel location is close to a Metro station, I wouldn't rank this hotel high on my list of places to stay in the DC area.

Enchanting stay at Omni Shoreham The historic hotel is wonderful. The hotel facade's architectural style is Art Deco, and rather charming to look at. On the hotel's front and in the lobby, there are history panels with photos that celebrate the hotel's history. The ornate grand lobby is beautiful. During my stay over the weekend before Christmas, the lobby had complimentary hot cider and apples, piped in Christmas music, Christmas decorations including at least two trees decorated by local schools, and moving (mechanical) reindeer! My large 8th floor room was well decorated, had a flat screen TV, was very comfortable, and had a great view of the neoclassic terrace at the back of the hotel. My view included the Washington Monument! The wake up call was by a person, not a machine, and included the temperature outside. The hotel is a short distance, maybe a tenth of a mile from the Metro Red Line's Woodley Park stop. You can walk to the National Zoo, and a little further to the AMC Uptown movie theater, an Art Deco single screen movie theater with a balcony, an enormous movie screen, and a powerful sound system.
