Howard Johnson Diplomat Hotel - Sliema, Malta     

Very good value for money.excellent breakfast and the hotel was spotlessly clean throughout. The private beach however,(Sliema Pitch)is not private and is dominated by loud italian women all trying to outdo each other.... beware !

Having stayed at the Diplomat hotel July 12-18th 2008, and reading all past reviews, my honest opinion, "you get what you pay for" This is the second stay in two years at this hotel. Staff very friendly, location excellant, with the rooms extremely clean. The breakfast this year has improved on last year, We only stayed on B&B basis, with plenty of restaurants near by to eat evening meals. Two restaurants worth visiting "first" Ta Kolina, tradinonal Maltese, good service, and varied menu, worth sitting outside on the balcony with wine , eating and watcing the world go by, "Second" Tex Mex, different,, but worth a visit based on meals servered, best place to try ribs, and the portions are massive,, be hungry when visiting. Couple of things to do!! Swim in the blue lagoon off Comino, a four hour half day trip by speed boat, On Sliema key, find Luzzu boat trips friendly, and dont rip you off. Bus to valleta, and ferry back, do it this way round, this will saved you steep walk up hill from ferry port Valleta side, Valleta has a lot to offer, from History to walking tradional back streets. Mdina & Mosta a must, plenty of buses run to these cities, plan your own trip instead of getting tied into deals and some one elses time scales. will be going back next year "same hotel"
