Open Gate - Praiano, Italy     

Great room with own bathroom and fantastic view over sea. Good hosts. Lovely little town away from the big touristy centres on coast. Best to get there by bus from Sorrento. Hotel located a short walk away from a bus stop. Don't get off in the town of Praiano itself. Wait for the bus (heading towards Amalfi from Positano) to go through tunnel and get off at the bus stop immediately after tunnel. Nice swimming beach in Praiano itself or at small harbour short walk down the road from hotel. This is a nice hotel in Praiano, which is a nice quite place to consider in the amalfi coast between positano and amalfi. The hotel hotel was clean, the rooms were well kept, and the views from the balconies is incredible (ask for room 29). The family who run the place are firendly and professional; and the have free parking at the hotel. You cant beat that. I definitely recommend the hotel. The hotel was quiet, with no road noise at all at night. You can walk from the open gate to the beach (about 15 minutes, down the hill, steep), though we had our 2 year old and so we drove (2 min) and paid to park (2 euros an hour, very reasonble). The best places to eat are at the beach, a must is the restaurant "pirata" and the "petit" restaurant over at the beach. The food at these places was excellent, and at very reasonable prices. Avoid the Alfonso a Mare restaurant: it looks nice from the outside but the food is lousy, and the service we received was short and hostile (and they threw a 10% service fee, on top of the coperto, to add insult to the night).
