Hotel Eden - Sorrento, Italy 

Having read all the negative reviews on here before going, I went to the Hotel Eden not expecting too much. I have to say that the hotel was perfectly adequate. I had booked the hotel rooms in January. At that time, doing a search of hotels, it was only this hotel which offered two single rooms at a reasonable price. The single rooms were adequately sized, if not generous. The bathroom in my room had a minute shower that was difficult to get into, but my mother's room had a good sized bathroom. Unlike other reviewers, I found the hotel staff most congenial, and, if treated with good humour, did the same in return. The breakfast, again, was adequate, but not one of the good features of this hotel. The hotel's best feature is its situation. It is a hundred yards (if that) from the central square, but, because it is built behind the buildings on the main street, does not suffer from the noise which is generated in the centre of a lively Italian town. We stayed on B&B basis. I didn't eat in the hotel restaurant. There is however an excellent a la carte restaurant owned by the same people as the hotel, right next to the entrance. This place is popular with Italians, which is recommendation enough. If you're looking for cheap (comparatively, as Sorrento is expensive) and cheerful - then go to the Eden. If you're looking for something more than the basic, then go elsewhere.

A group of us stayed in Hotel Eden from May 31 to June 2 as a short break, we had read the reviews so knew what to expect. The best thing about this hotel is its location which is very central and within walking distance of the main town in Sorrento. The hotel has two entrances and one (through a short private passageway) leads you directly onto the main road through the town, so it was great for these purposes as in easy reach of everything, like the main square, restaurants etc, ferries to Capri. The rooms are okay, nothing special but were clean and comfortable and the room was adequate for what we wanted. We had a balcony on ours and paid extra for this but to be honest the balcony wasn't worth the money as it overlooked another part of the hotel's roof. Our friends room was also very similar and we were generally all satisfied with the rooms for the price we paid. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was also okay and we had no real problems. The pool is also nice and big, and we were also really happy with this.
