2.9We were there at the end of January 2009 for sightseeing for 4 nights.
The surrounding was excellent - the Barcelona Cathedral, La Rambla, and the taxi stand are within 0-1 minute walking. The room was big and clean. There were enough light bulbs. Only that the window was small and faced other hotel windows and the distance was only about 15 meters. Not enough day light.
The food was superior. Fresh, delicious, clean, and well-presented.
The charge for an extra bed was not reasonable. They charged 40 Euros on top of about 120 euro. The welcoming receptionist was an unsmiling middle-aged gentleman and didn't speak English well enough so I couldn't really reason with him. Plus we had got very tired from traveling, so I gave up reasoning with him. Anyway, if an additional bed cost 40 euro, at least half discount should be given to my son who's only 11.
The receptionists were arrogant (except one). When I asked about bottled drinking water, the guy said "This is the reception, how can I have bottled water?" Well, from where I came, even 3 star hotel would provide 2 bottles of water free every day. It's all ok to tell me that it's not the same case in Barcelona, but he didn't have to be so rude!
Soap and shower cap were not replaced. I used up one soap after 2 days but there was not a new one. My shower cap was thrown away by the housekeeper but there was not a replacement. I had to wait twice (each time about 10 minutes) to get my shower cap. Wasting my time for rest. If it's a 2 or 3 star hotel I would tolerate, but it is a 4 star.
Anyway, the location was excellent for sight-seeing tours, but the rate was too high especially for the average service that we received.
