Location

The hotel is located in a central area, in the neighbourhood of Gracia, also known as Barcelona's Greenwich Village. The hotel is close to the city’s main shopping and business areas including Avinguda Diagonal, Passeig de Gràcia and Via Augusta. Some Modernist highlights, such as Casa Vicens and Parc Güell, are also within walking distance.

Despite its location in the heart of Barcelona, Gracia has a village-like ambience, with its narrow streets, squares, lively bars, and small designer shops.

The hotel’s central location also means that the hotel has excellent public transport links for exploring the whole of the city and the surrounding area.

As with some of the other reviews, I'd like to highlight: location, location, location! My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights end of September 2007. It was great, and we'd definitely stay here again. Not only is the location perfect (on the L3, or green line) to access all attractions, shopping, the beach and most restaurants/bars you'd want - but for 89 euros/night (taxes incl.) you couldnt get any better! The hotel itself is also 2 blocks from one of gaudis buildings, and has it's own little shopping neighborhood you can spend some time in (less touristy, has a grocery store, boutique shops, local tapas bars, etc). The metro train stop is approx. 3 minute walk from the hotel, and into the center of town maybe a total of 10 min. We had a very spacious room- #309. The hotel is non-smoking, has free internet in the lobby (or 10 euros/24 hours wifi access with your own laptop), AC, breakfast (although we didnt eat there, and it costs a little extra), and an elevator/lift. Our room was super clean, good maid service daily (we didnt have a problem with the window being opened for us, and prefer fresh air flowing in during the day- just close it at night if needed) and spacious. The only thing missing in our room vs. other typical hotels is a desk. But I never use one anyway. There was a large couch, big bed, lots of walking room and a full bathroom (bath, not just a shower). Cons: Our shower leaked a bit onto our bathroom floor, but that wasnt a big deal to us and we just kept a towel on the floor afterwards. Had to ask for the hairdryer and iron, but again, no big deal for us and we were able to keep them the rest of the stay vs. returning them each day. Other nice extras- the receptionist was always willing to make restaurant reservations for us when asked (she didnt have a lot of input for recommendations, so come prepared with your own list). The hotel left us a box of chocolate on the bed with a questionnaire to fill out, and genuinely seemed to care about our stay. Overall, would definitely stay here again! Great room, price and location, and very nice staff. Dont think you can do better than this hotel in the 90 euro/night range. We recommend taking the bus from the airport (can buy a ticket when you get on for 3,90 euros/person), and then the subway from Catalunya to the hotel stop- Fontana (buy a T-10 subway ticket for 6,90 euros: you can use it for multi-persons, and its the best deal). Very easy and very cheap. Restaurants we really liked in Barcelona: Ciudad Condal (try the sangria!), Arc Cafe (chill), Buenas Migas (lunch), and Sesamo (vegetarian). Stay away from La Fonda, terrible!

I booked this hotel after reading reviews here. Pros: Location, location, location; cleanliness, decent rooms, internet access in the reception Cons: Small rooms, housekeeper left the window open and I fell very ill The hotel is conveiently located to the subway, and hence an excellent choice. I wish I had spent more on a bigger room, because my room was a bit on the smaller side and had a very small bathroom. However, since I spent most of my time outside the hotel, it did not bother me as much. What bothered me was that housekeeping left the window open everyday, and covered it with the curtain. It was hard to know that the window was open because of its location in the room. The first night it got very cold and I fell very very ill. That somewhat ruined my trip. I then realized that they left the window open and I made it a point to close it each night. I don't understand why housekeeping would leave it open and cover it with a curtain! Anyway, when I got back home, I had to take two sick days because I was extremely unwell. The next time, I would look for another hotel or pay more for a better room here.
