5Standard Double room: I visited Paris and Rome last year and although our four star hotel in Rome was good, nothing prepared me for how pleasantly surprised I was with Gallery Hotel. My expectations after my first visit to Europe (especially Paris) had been lowered indeed, but don't make the mistake of thinking that I’m impressed with this hotel because of lowered expectations. By European standards, our room was big, and by American standards it was big enough. It was CLEAN and just comfortable in every way. The only negative things I have to say about this hotel are: 1) There was no ventilation in the bathroom so it would get stinky from time to time and we would have to open the bathroom door and the windows to remedy the problem. 2) At checkout, they used a much higher conversion rate (from euro to dollar) than the rate of that day. I believe the rate for that particular day was 1.40, but they used a conversion rate of 1.446 for the total dollar amount. We were in a hurry so we just thought that the total also included the 3% foreign transaction fee the banks charge and therefore it was too high, but that wasn’t the case. This has left a bitter taste in my mouth from this hotel that I can easily get over given how much I loved everything else; next time, we’ll just pay cash (in euro) to avoid the conversion rate issue! 3) Our bed was essentially two individual twin beds put next to each other to make a bigger bed for two. This arrangement didn’t bother me personally, but I thought it would matter to some so I figured I’d mention it.
