3Husband and I stayed September 2008---reservation not relayed properly---had to argue for an hour to get the Starwood preferred guest upgrade which is just about automomatic in the US---also, getting non-smoking and a larger room was hard---view was terrible. Hotel has a lot of new amenities, sound activiated lights, glass doors, however, some rooms have only showers. Room doors are so heavy that the sound of doors opening and closing in the hall wake a person up. Not all front desk staff is bilingual and I had to use an interpreter. Staff kept showing us the rack rate "which no one really pays" to justify why they did not want to upgrade us since I had a discounted government rate. I viewed four rooms vefore finally getting one that was tolerable. Since we stayed a week and I am a gold member, I would have expected more cooperation. Rumor has it this is not atypical treatment for a BBCN hotel.
The location is very good---it is very clean---housekeeping good---a few computers with complimentary internet are available. The hotel was safe. I would consider staying there again due to the Starwood program and location if the parameters were made very clear before I left the US. I wish there were Marriotts in BCN other than at the airport, or the Ritz-Carlton by the beach.
