Hesperia Carlit - Barcelona, Spain     

My wife and I spent 3 nights in Barcelona in May 2007, and this part of our trip really benefited from the Hesperia Carlit, a hotel of only about 40 guest rooms. Here are our experiences at the hotel: 1. Location - Very much a central downtown area. It is in a mixed commercial/residential neighborhood, right next to what can be called the main tourist area of Barcelona. Plenty of small, local restaurants nearby and a little food/wine market right across the street. It is less than half a mile to the Sagrada Fam?lia, and about 3/4 mile to the main Gaudi Museum. 2. Lobby and rooms were clean and up to date. Room was a lttle small, but nicely furnished. We were at the back so it was fairly quiet except for a few neighborhood noises in the morning. 3. Breakfast was about the best we've ever had at a hotel. When we checked in, we were offered a reduced rate for the breakfast which included the best coffee I have ever had. They make it expresso style. 4. Service was good. The front desk people were very helpful. We would definitely stay again if returning to Barcelona

The Hesperia Carlit is conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the metro, and 15 minutes walk from the Sagrada Familia. I had a single room which was clean, comfortable and quiet (except for the person down the hall who crashed back to their room at 3am). The view was a mixture of local flats, with the spires of the Sagrada Familia in the distance. The staff were friendly and helpful (if you want to sight-see after checking out, there is a room to leave your luggage in). I didn't opt for the over-priced buffet breakfast (11.75 Euros), but instead went to a local cafe and got wonderful coffee & croissant for 2 Euros.
