4We have just come back from Barcelona yesterday (17Aug 07)
I had already booked this hotel before I looked on trip advisor and was a bit worried by some of the review, I didn't need to be.
This hotel is clean, looks new, modern and the staff are really good, they all speak English and even the cleaners will not let you pass without saying Hola. The room we had was big and modern with a lcd t.v., air con and a fantastic bathroom with a superb shower and even a pillow menu (I kid you not). I have tried to find an emal address for this hotel just to thank the staff for being so pleasent to numpty English tourists like me that cannot speak Spanish. The b/fast is buffet style with breads, cheeses, fruit, cerail, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages( allthough they weren't the same as English sausages) toast and jam, coissannts (sorry, I don't know how to spell that) coffee and fruit juice all buffet style to help yourself.
Unfortunatly for us this hotel was in the wrong location, not because of the area (I have read some reviews about the area not being very nice but having been there it's obvious it's in the middle of being regenerated) and we never felt uneasy even at night in this area. There is a really nice park at the side of the hotel that is well worth a walk through, it's full of kids not wrecking things or drinking or being idoits, just playing basket ball and table tennis, yes table tennis. The problem for us was that allthough there is a metro station a short walk away, it was shut all the time, we think for repairs, not the hotels fault I know but the buses are a nightmare!!! (after going on to a metro staion in the centre we were glad we hadn't used it, it was the only time I didn't feel safe in Barcelona)
The first time we got one we asked to go to plaza cataluña (top of Las Ramblas) it cost 2.50 for two of us, but it didn't go near plaza cataluña even though the driver said "SI". We had to walk for well over an hour to get back into the centre. We got a taxi back to the hotel later (even the cab drivers seemed unsure where the hotel was)
Later we asked the hotel staff where to get a bus into plaza cataluña and they were brilliant, even drawing on our map where to get the bus, what number to get and where to get off, and they were right, it all worked really well.
Next morning armed with our new info, we got the same bus from the same stop, paid the same fare and asked for the same place and all went well at first. After seeing some of same streets as the night before we had a good feeling, it didn't last. after a while it became obvious it had now gone a different route than the night before, thinking it would get to plaza cataluña at some point we stayed on until driver kicked us off, again another 45 min walk to the centre.
From then on we took taxi's, they are cheap enough (about 10 euro's from plaza cataluña to the hotel) but it's not what we wanted.
For a buisness traveller this hotel is ideal for us it was not the right location, and that's a shame because the hotel was very good but we wouldn't stop there again.
