I stayed at Silken St Gervasi in late February 2005 with my boyfriend. We stayed for 3 nights for ?75 each on a good deal booked with Expedia. I was very impressed with the service. The staff were very welcoming and could be relied on for recommendations to local bars and restaurants. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable, they change your towels every day (without fail) and sheets if need be - which you don't always get in some hotels. The hotel is situated near the red tourist bus route (Barcelona has 4 tourist bus routes blue, green, yellow and red). There are cash machines nearby and 2 small bars which are less than 3 mins walk from the hotel. You are 2 mins from the El Padua metro station which is 10 mins from Placa de Catalunya, which makes you very central to Barcelona. While staying there we went to see Barcelona FC play Marbella at Nou Camp we paid 22 euros each on the night - which was a bargain. Although we did visit Port Vell (seafood is fantastic), the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas...the best place to eat was the area near Picasso's museum it is known in Barcelona as the cheapest place to eat (for those of you on budgets). We did not have a bad bottle of wine during our stay! For breakfast there is a cafe/bakery on the near the Metro station...they do very good pastries.
Location is nice, in a residential area, not so close to the center, but quite.
Metrò and busses are at walking distance.
Hotel is nice, rooms are not huge but good enough for two people and new and clean.
