I'd like to thank all of you who recommended this hotel. It was just perfect for us. The location was great - within an easy walk of the major tourist places: Las Ramblas, Barri Gotic, Gaudi's Casa Batllo. Good restaurants abound nearly next door: La Tramoia, Cuidad Condal. Hotel is just round the corner from a taxi stand and a metro station, on a street with outdoor cafes. We requested a quiet room, and got one. I loved the simple, stylish decor (especially the lights in the hall floor). We always breakfasted at the Cuidad Condal, which had exactly what we wanted: cafe con leche and pan tostada at a reasonable cost (less than 5 E for both of us). The hotel staff was quick to respond to a small complaint (minor plumbing issue), and made it clear it would be solved to our satisfaction or we could change rooms. I think it had it all: style, location, helpful staff, comfort and what I consider affordable.

The Onix Rambla is a new hotel, it's location is as good as it gets in the very center of Barcelona, in a quiet street. It's a walking distance from Las Ramblas, metro stations, airport bus, tourist bus starting point and many more attractions. The hotel is new, rooms are clean, big and offer a nice street view from a small balcony. The rooftop pool wasn't operating during our stay (End of December) but it offered a nice view of the city. Staff was great also. Didn't eat in the hotel so no opinion on the food.

Great hotel but terrible breakfast staff and food

We stayed 5 nights at the Onix last October and found it generally good. The location is excellent, walking distance to Plaza Catalanya and La Rambla. We managed to pop back to the hotel during the day sometime to freshen up as it was so convenient. The hotel room was clean but the decor was ordinary. The tiny balcony was accessible though a double door, but the view from our room (back of hotel) was nothing to write home about. The hotel has free internet access (one PC only) which nobody told us about. We discovered it by chance while waiting for our lift one morning after breakfast - hearing someone tapping on a keyboard! The breakfast (food and service) was poor. The 2 ladies serving breakfast were very unwelcoming - no smile and no greetings of any form despite our attempts. On the other hand, staff at the reception were pleasant, friendly and helpful. For it's location & price, we would go back but will avoid breakfast in the hotel..
