3The hotel in which we stayed was the AC Vilamari in Barcelona. We stayed there from the 30.10.07 to 2.11.07. I will briefly explain why we were so unhappy. My partner and I were involved in a robbery scam within one hour of arriving in Barcelona. When we eventually arrived at the AC Vilamari we were greeted by a receptionist called Maria, who was very kind and helpful. We had already paid for our stay at the hotel, which was good as we had no money at all(apart from £25 in sterling, (which we found out later was worthless) All of our money, passports and many valuables had been stolen.
For the next 28 hours we both went hungry as we had no money and we had to wait for some money to be transferred from the UK. The following morning we waited in the hotel reception to receive a phone call from the UK. We asked about breakfast, but were told by the man behind the desk that because we had NOT paid for breakfast we would not be allowed one. (Obviously we would have paid once we received some money from the UK) The staff did not even offer us a hot drink. They could clearly see that we were unhappy and distressed. My partner even had £25 sterling in his pocket and asked if the hotel could possibly change that, but again we were told that was not possible as we had no identification. You can imagine how we felt.
We expected better of the 4* hotel Vilamari and were both very disatisfied with how this situation was handled. I am sure in some hotels we would have been given a hot drink and even food after what had happened to us. It is just a pity that the reception staff felt unable to help us. The ONLY member of staff who was truly helpful and kind was Maria. It is a pity she wasn't on duty when we needed her!! For that we would like to thank her. But I am afraid I will not be recommending The Vilamari. For such a "lovely" hotel.... it is a pity that the reception staff and management did not show greater kindness to 2 very distressed tourists to Barcelona. I will also be forwarding my views to Expedia, the company from where we booked the holiday.
