Hotel Nouvel - Barcelona, Spain

have just returned following a three day break in Barcelona staying at the Hotel Nouvel, Santa Anna, Barcelona. Location excellent, 40 yards from La Rambla and 3 minutes from Placa Catalunya. Our room was twin bedded, as requested and was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom complete with bath, shower, bidet and handbasin. Breakfast was better than adequate with Juice, cereal, cold meats, cheeses, tinned fruit, sausages, scrambled eggs, croissants, breads, butter and jams. Reception staff spoke English well and were very helpful at all times. I am 65 years old, have travelled the world on a tight budget and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was excellent. Just off La Rambla! Would happily stay again.

Goodness knows what hotel some of the other reviewers were staying at

I was in a party that booked four separate rooms. Good points The hotel's location is excellent. The breakfast is good. Bad points Surly staff - one woman on reception was as awkward as they come - some of the others were not much better. I only saw two members of staff smile over 4 days. Room cleaning variable. The towels were not changed every day. Rooms variable. Singles can be tiny - do not rely on being able to relax back at the hotel - this is a guest house type hotel. Weird air conditioning controlled by reception. I do not think it works during the day. We were cold at night - another in the party was not aware his room had air conditioning it was so bad. There is TV in the rooms - variable quality of set. You might be lucky with a flat screen or unlucky with an old TV. There is only one English channel - BBC World. you have to leave ?20 deposit at the desk to get a remote control. Some TV's will not work without it. No fridge, tea or coffee making facility. There is a vending machine downstairs. All rooms have a safe but you have to pay extra. I was forced to pay for my full stay on arrival. This always makes me feel like I am being treated as a criminal. Generally I got the feeling it is far too easy for hoteliers to make money in Barcelona

This was the cheapest three star hotel i was able to find. I stayed on the 5th floor and was very impressed with my room (especially after seeing some photos that were already on here!). Note- you have to pay 1.50 euros per nite if you want a safe. You also have to provide a 20 euro deposit for remote to use the tv but this is refunded at the end of stay Very close to the Ramblas! We also had a mini balcony where we could sit and enjoy the sunshine. It was also helpful that they provided breakfast, cereal, scrambled eff, toast, cheese, ham, yogurt, orange etc One thing to note, the hotel is the first left off the top of the Ramblas- Santa Anna road. This should help you find it easier to locate!
