Th hotel is in the reach of many attractions and activities, yet provides trhe prefect hideaway. The Fisherman's Restaurant offers a varied menu, specialising in seafood and has an excellent wine list. The Butler Arms was one of Charlie Chaplin's favourite holiday destinations, and the pictures on the wall in the Chaplin lounge recall the happy visits by the Chaplin family. This is a good middle of the road three star hotel with a couple of four star qualities like location and fine dining. Yes, the interior is a little dated but it is clean and comfortable and the only crib we had was some noisy plumbing. It may be a little dearer than it should but you are on the ring of kerry and you can expect to pay for this - if you have just played golf in Waterville it will seem cheap. There is also a bloody good chef at work in the kitchen, I had as good a piece of john dory as ever came out of the atlantic, and all the more pleasurable for being served by very pleasant staff - there are not many left like Mary Jo!

Recently my husband & I and our friends stayed three nights at the Butler Arms Hotel. It was a very disappointing experience. While the rooms were nice, the service was very disappointing, with any and all requests seeming to be an inconvenience for the staff. Additionally, staffing was extremely minimal and largely very unenthusiastic, despite the fact that it was early in their season and there were few other guests staying there. The Butler Arms was the most expensive place we stayed during our two weeks in Ireland and we elected to stay in a "deluxe suite". Compared to our other experiences, including at world renowned Irish golf resorts, Butler Arms was considerabley more inferior in atmosphere and overall quality.
