Date stayed: April 1, 2008 Trip Advisor Member, Ohio, USA We booked a double room for one night 6 months in advance. We walked from the train station to the hotel which of course would have been easier if I had printed a map prior to the trip. Evidently, mid-week the hotel was not full and our double room was upgraded to "the" suite which was huge. Unfortunately, the wood floors in the suite creaked so badly that we feared being thrown out of the hotel if we walked across the room!! While this was to be expected in a 500 year old hotel, it was excessive to the point of making us ill-at-ease. Our dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant were reasonably good.

My husband and I have stayed at the Post Hotel about 5-6 times, as he has to travel to Villach for business regularly. He receives a corporate room rate, which I believe is somewhere between 100-120 euros/double room. This hotel is super, super cute! It's exactly what you would imagine an 'austrian gasthof' should look like. It mixes both austrian style with historical pieces in all areas of the hotel, including the guest rooms. Being right in the center of town, directly on the pedestrian only road, it's a great location. They do have a car park in the courtyard of the hotel, but can be tricky to find, so ask for great directions. We have only eaten breakfast at the hotel, and it's delicious- a full breakfast buffet (cereals, meats/cheeses, bread, yogurts, eggs made to order, etc). The staff is very friendly and the maid service is great. There is also free internet in the rooms (bring your own computer, of course). Although their website states it, I actually had no idea they had a 'wellness' center on the 3rd floor. My only critical marks of the hotel would be: - While the rooms are spotlessly clean, sometimes there is dust on the chandeliers or the old light fixtures on the wall will look a little worn/torn. But it's an old hotel, so chalk it up to charm! If you are looking for bright, shiny and new, dont stay here and consider the newly opened Holiday Inn. - During our last stay, we had a room on the 3rd floor. I didnt like the darkness of the hallway or the fact that you had to take the elevator vs. stairs (no access). I much prefer rooms on the 2nd floor (and also think they've also been on average a bit bigger). Overall, we love staying at the hotel post with it's romantic charm and historic style. And it's a great location that cant be beat for someone wanting to explore Villach.
