We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Grand hotel Royal and we would not hesitate to return.
The rooms were beautifully furnished in an old Italian classic style, the view from the sea view rooms of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius were breathtaking.
All of the staff were incredibly polite and helpful; we stayed on a half board basis and the evening meals were consistantly delicious with a varied choice.Similarly breakfasts were a treat with fresh omelletes and a variety of other cereals, fruit, cakes etc.
The hotel is ideally located 5 mnutes away from the centre, this enabled us to walk to the train station where we caught a 30 minute train to Pompei. We paid just under 4 euros for the train (return) and 10 euros each for a guide at Pompeii which was invaluable in showing the main points of the large site.
We walked for 15 minutes to reach the marina where we paid 29 euros return for a hydrofoil (20 mins) to Capri.Capri was beautiful but very busy so I would recommend getting there as early in the morning as you can.
The hotel provided live music in the lounge twice a week which gave a real sample of Italian music. The hotel does seem to attract a more mature clientele but this helps to maintain it's restful and classical ambience. We could not find fault with the hotel and would love to return one day.
