4As the saying goes, "In this life, you get what you pay for", and I suspect that many people expect a little too much for their pound or dollar when poor reviews are posted on this site.
The Centrum does not set itself in the luxury category, but more as a good value, mid-range hotel, a niche it occupies very well indeed.
Okay, the area where it is positioned may not be plush and the comments about being in the red light area are justified, but not once did I feel frightened or uncomfortable whilst walking in the area, even late at night.
Our room was basic and small but adequately equipped and clean, although the bathroom was very tiny and the shower area was probably less than a meter square, so we actually ended up not even using the shower curtain and using the bathroom as a wet room. There was no fridge or safety deposit facility in our room (although I understand that safety deposit is available at reception). Cable TV and telephone were also featured.
The staff were always very courteous and friendly and breakfasts were impressive with a good choice of cereals, juices, tea / coffee, various cheeses, cold meats, pate and, of course, Danish pastries. Breakfast was never a rushed affair as can often be the case, so it was a nice way to start off the day. Also, hot and cold drinks machines are available close to the elevator, and there is free internet access in the reception area.
The Centrum is within easy walking distance of most attractions, museum and galleries and is amazingly close to the central railway station. Tivoli Gardens is just a few minutes walk, so the hotel is ideally placed from that point of view.
I understand also that as a guest of the Centrum, we were allowed to use a local, very highly rated fitness centre around the corner. We did not make use of this as we were too busy out and about in Copenhagen. This I would imagine makes up for the lack of leisure facilities at the hotel itself.
So, if you are looking for good value for money and want to stay in a reasonable standard hotel, you could do far worse than the Centrum. Overall I was pleasantly surprised during my stay here and would likely stay there again.
