Good hotel with free access to health club facilities

This hotel is in a convenient location, just a few steps from the train station and from Tivoli, & a brief walk to most of Copenhagen's main attractions. The rooms are basic and rather stark, but clean and (by European standards) spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful, and room rates include a free buffet breakfast. I especially appreciated free access to health club facilities (including a HUGE swimming pool) while staying at the hotel: We like to work out when we travel and usually spend too much time finding a place to do that. Here, the gym is part of the hotel complex.

Mediocre
Disappointing

My stay at DGI Byens in Copenhagen was disappointing. This considering I had no expectations to begin with. To break it down, here are the pros and cons: Cons: - No air conditionning (the norm in Copenhagen but when it is very hot in summer, one must open the windows and the DGI Byens is right beside the central train station. This means you'll be hearing screeching trains all night long). - The front sales staff are not that knowledgeable or informed. Some don't even know what DGI stands for. - You're really staying at a recreational complex and not a hotel. It is more like a YMCA type atmosphere and environment. Perhaps this is why the staff don't know very much, because they are not like hotel staff at traditional hotels but rather are young like that comparable to a recreational complex. Pros: + Swimming pool is accessible while you stay. The only drawback is that it and the rest of the recreational complex is open to the public. It's not just hotel visitors using the facilities. + Centrally located. In the end, I was disappointed with the staff who couldn't answer basic questions and the value that I got for my money. DGI Byens is overrated and there are other options to get a better value for what you are paying for.

I thought this hotel was a great option. Though, we paid $312.00 per night, that was not untypical for Copenhagen. The complex has a college dorm feeling, but it has a quaint feel. I was please with our stay. The room was not ready till 2P, when we arrived at 900A. That was okay as we left our baggage in storage. We returned at 200p and the room was ready. It was spacious and very clean. We thought the wooden floors were a nice touch. The bathroom was large. We had a balcony that faced the main court. When, we closed the windows we could not hear anything. We thoght the room was quite. The rail station news did not bother us. The breakfast had a great selection of meats and cheeses. There was plenty of cereal and the coffee was robust. The hotel is housed next to a great gym facility. We were so busy seeing the city, that we did not have time to use the pool or the gym. The location is great, it is right behind the main station and 5 minutes from Tivilo. it is a 15 min to 30 minute walk to all the highlights of Copenhagen. Go to GORM bakery for some of the greatest Danish. It is 15 minute walk to Nyhavn, which is a cool place to have a beer and dinner.
