Stayed here on business, so I have no comment on its "value for money". As a hotel, the staff are not customer focused, and although the hotel has some "charm" (and is clean), I found the room on the top floor with its sloping interior ceiling (not for anyone over 4 feet tall) to be ultimately unsatisfactory. Breakfast basic, but relatively decent. Decent sized bathroom.

This hotel has a reputation for being elegant and luxurious, which I though would be a perfect finish to a week spent in hostels and on friends' couches. There is a lot of cheap brass and marble around, but this place is not at all luxurious. The once grand hotel is run down with unfriendly staff and terrible food. It's really the worst food of our whole trip, served in a basement on plastic tablecloths. The staff didn't help us get our luggage up the stairs -- in fact there was no staff in sight at the door, which is probably why they have a problem with theft inside the hotel. If you have to put up "beware of pickpockets" sign in an expensive hotel perhaps it's time to invest in a security guard. On the positive side, the rooms are large with big bathtubs (though both were a little dirty -- hair in the tub upon check-in). The wireless internet is easy and free but drops out every few minutes.
