The location of this hotel is really good for access to the Metro and bus stops. It is a short walk to both Stroget and Nyhaven. What a great shame about the hotel itself. It needs a complete refurbishment and it falls short of a 3 star hotel. The room I stayed in was tiny, but no major problem with that, it was the dust and mould in the bathroom that really appalled me. The view whilst sitting in the bath looking across to the toilet was not a pleasant sight! There was no working plug for the sink so an extra long plug had been put on the bath to stretch over to the sink. Dust was everywhere from the doors to the lamps to the bed and in the carpet around the skirting board. The bed was comfortable at least. Breakfast was acceptable wjth a good choice of breads, pastries, cheese, meat and fruit. Don't sit near the shutters though as all you see are cobwebs behind them which is a little off-putting when you are eating. I didn't see the kitchens. Overall it is such a shame about the lack of cleanliness as it could be a really good little hotel due to it's excellent location. I have to say that the staff were really helpful and courteous when I complained about the room I was offered another ( larger)room the next day but it was just as bad when i looked at the toilet. I sound quite obsessed with cleanliness but I have never had to complain about a room like this before. My husband booked this hotel before looking on tripadvisor...............the moral of the story is always check before you book! Loved Copenhagen as a city though!

This is a hotel with a lot of old world charm. The location is first rate as it is just around the corner from the Kongens Nytorv underground station only 15 minutes from the airport, opposite the Royal Theatre and close to shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel has a very theatrical theme, with photographs of ballet dancers on every floor (the hotel was recommended to me a an osteopath who works with the Royal Danish Ballet) and has a very cosy lounge that was warm and welcoming on bitterly cold November evenings. My room was a good size and the bed extremely comfortable, the bathroom could have done with some attention but it was quite adequate. A very good buffet breakfast was available but was disappointed that there was no room service or restaurant outside of breakfast hours.

We stayed in Hotel Opera for 3 nights for a long weekend in May. The location is perfect, it is easy to walk to everywhere from here. Nyhavn is around the corner, Kings Square at the end of the street and Stroget (main shopping district) runs off Kings Square. All other attractions are in easy walking distance or a short bike ride - do as the locals do! We booked into a small double and were warned that the room was small. The size however was fine - after all - you only sleep in your room. It was no smaller then a lot of hotel rooms I have stayed in. The bathroom was as to be expected - functional without being fantastic. It did lack a few extra hanging rails which would have been helpful. But it was clean, and all you would expect. You may want to ask for an extra pillow! The desk staff and service was fine, they all spoke English very well and we had no problems with any of our requests. Over all I recommend the hotel for somewhere that isn't too exepensive yet is central, clean and has good friendly service. If you catch the train to Central Station it is not that close to there if you are carrying bags, however. Catch the bus (1A) which stops at Kings Square just around the corner from the hotel.

I stayed at Hotel Opera last week. A colleague chose it and made the booking for me. Reading some of the reviews on these pages made me somewhat apprehensive. In fact, the hotel was not as bad as some reviewers make you think it is. On the other hand, I did not find anything particularly recommendable about it, either. My single room was of a normal size and was reasonably clean. Perhaps the worst feature of it was, as some reviewers have pointed out, the bathroom. It was clean but primitive--consisting of just a hand-held shower and a curtain. The water was drained through the square hole in the tiled floor. In my case, there was not even a window ledge to put soap, shampoo, etc. on. Also there was no hair dryer in the room (I was able to borrow one from the reception). There was no safety deposit box or mini bar, either. The room price included breakfast, which was good. The hotel has a tired, faded look, which the owner seems to try to disguise by putting pictures on the wall. I would describe Hotel Opera as adequate, especially if you are a business traveller on a brief visit to Copenhagen. But next time I would like to stay somewhere more modern and cheerful.
