Location

The Lodge is centrally located in the town of Windermere, originally called Birthwaite until the Kendel and Windermere rail company built a train station in the village and called it Windermere Station, a name which has been associated with the village and lake since.

The train station itself is a site to see as are the cottages built in 1849 for the rail executives and designed by the famous architect Augustus Pugin. One of the cottages even contains a replica of the fireplace he designed in the Palace of Westminster.

It was a lovely hotel, and the staff and owners were really great! They were very polite and were always willing to give suggestions on things to see and do in the area. The room was spotless and modern, and the bed was very comfortable, and the view from the bay window was lovely. Breakfast was brilliant too! There was a spread of cereal, fuit and juices, and as well as that you could have a full english breakfast! I fully recommend this lodge, as it is only a 5 minute walk from the shops, restaurants, and pubs.

I recently took my boyfriend for a surprise stay in the Lake District & Ellerthwaite Lodge could not have been more perfect! The room was clean, modern, with a very comfortable bed & fantastic bay window! Ellerthwaite is in a perfect location within walking distance to plenty of restauranst/ pubs/ Lake windermere & walks. Breakfast was excellent, with a waitress taking our order, with plenty of choice. I shall be recommending Ellerthwaite to all, and we hope to be back soon!
