Welcome in ! We are known for our outstanding hospitality service in this historical hotel of 1507. After a fire in the year of 1954, the building has been reconstructed in the original Black Forest style and You may still enjoy its charming ambience. The 3 rooms of our restaurant with their lovely, typical Black Forest interior, are an ideal place to relax and to enjoy our regional cuisine. Location
Our hotel is situated in heart of the wine village of Glottertal in the Black Forest. The wine yards are just a few steps away. The wine of Glottertal is of good quality because of our mild climatic conditions. Take a breath of fresh air, smell the Black Forest and relax with the silent noise of the small Glotter river...The village of Glottertal is not far away from the highway A 5 and the exhibition centre (10 minutes), the city centre of Freiburg and the panoramic route of the Black Forest (15 minutes), only 30 minutes from the Kaiserstuhl mountains and the Europa park Rust (attraction park and resort) and 45 minutes from the Alsace and the city of Basel

Enjoy the ambiance of our cosy guestrooms. You have the choice between a rural Black Forest style with hand-painted furniture or our new romantic guestrooms in a modern and classic style (new since 2006). All rooms have a bathroom with shower/ WC, satellite-TV, internet-access and balcony. We offer different categories depending of size, bathroom and location. The large corner rooms have an excellent view over the wine yards or the "Kandel" mountain.Facilities

Our kitchen team is leaded by Michael Mannel and offers You not only regional specialities of Baden but also a modern, trendy and creative cuisine. Our menu is dominated by seasonal influences. We mostly use regional, selected products coming from the farmers nearby. The 3 rooms of our restaurant offer a warm ambience. They are furnished in an original Black Forest style. Stayed at this hotel for a family get-together. Very nice old building in the traditional Black Forest style, everything very well kept and (of course, this is Germany) spotless. The dining rooms and other public areas are traditional in style, and the bedrooms are modern and I think recently refurbished. The staff were pleasant, the breakfast was fine, so what more can you want?
Glottertal has plenty of (mostly fairly upmarket) restaurants serving mainly German cuisine, so you can quite easily eat here without having to go into Freiburg, for example.
The hotel was remarkably good value for money, I have to say.

During the past summer, my wife and I were visiting Germany, and one of our destinations was Freiburg, a city full of charm and history. We have been to the city before, but only on passing visits. We decided to spend several days there and rather than staying in the city we decided almost arbitrarily that Glottertal would be a suitable place to stay, a small town but conveniently close to Freiburg. We selected the Goldener Engel hotel using the WWW for both finding and booking.
What a wonderful surprise! Glottertal is a small town or large village situated in a peaceful vine-clad valley and is about fifteen minutes drive from Freiburg. The Goldener Engel is a family-run hotel with a long history, situated in the middle of the village. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the rooms clean and spacious and the food excellent traditional fare of good quality and served in substantial portions. Our knowledge of the German language is primitive at best, but the staff were unfailingly patient with us and always endeavoured to answer our questions and give us help.
If you tire of the hotel food there are several other hotel restaurants nearby (walking distance) all serving fine food.
If you tire of driving. there are many lanes and trails in and around the village all allowing pleasant walks and attractive views.
We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and the village to anyone planning a visit to Freiburg and the surrounding area.
