Hotel Torbrau address: Tal 41, Munich, 6573

Hotel Torbrau details: The 4-star Torbräu (established 1490) is the oldest first class hotel in Munich. Located in the real heart of old Munich, all major touristic sights, shopping areas and business centres are within walking distance. Direct access to airport and new fair ground by rapid train (Station Isartor).

Family owned for more than 100 years. Inspiration and commitment based on 500 years of tradition.

Mixing the traditional and contemporary is the philosophy of owner Werner Kirchlechner and his employees. It is especially important to him not to treat guests as room or credit card numbers, but to offer personalised services from the bell hop to the managing director.

Just returned from 3 nights in a suite. This hotel has in place all the small details that make your stay effortless and comfortable. It begins with the availability of an elevator to get your luggage to your room. The front desk staff is helpful without being intrusive. Our room was exactly as pictured on the website. There were several nice surprises however. While the suite was small, there was a lot of storage. In the small sitting room there was a large closet. In the bedroom one entire wall is closet/desk space. All of the windows open which allows for delightful cross-ventilation, but there was also effective AC. For Americans a real treat- ice machines on the floor and vending machines with grocery store prices. The complimentary mini-bar (if you book a suite or double deluxe room)was indeed welcome after a day of sightseeing or biking. It was wonderful to have in-room coffee/tea making provisions. We had to pay for Internet but didn't mind, given what a good value the accommodation was. The breakfast room is lovely, and the service most attentive. I asked at the front desk for use of an iron, and by the time I got up to the room it had arrived! Housekeeping pays close attention to when you leave, and immediately cleans your room. They do an outstanding job as well, the bathroom was gleaming. It is also nice to have a shower separate from a soaking tub. The two sinks make getting ready efficient. The location of the hotel could not be better. It is literally steps away from the Isartor S station. It is just a few minutes walk to Marienplatz, or the opera house which was our destination one night. Right across the street is an excellent restaurant called Riva Pizza. The food was excellent (gotta love spargel season) and the prices were very reasonable. We were in Europe for three weeks and stayed at a variety of properties. The Hotel Torbrau was the best overall accomodation of our trip.

Hotel Torbrau is in a great location! The front desk is just so helpful and the room was great. The Hofbrau House is just behind the hotel a few blocks. A great dinner was had at Zum Durnbrau just a block away. Sandra was our sweet waitress and recommended great dishes for us. Being able to walk to the Marienplatz and so much more was truly convenient. Even a Starbucks within about 5 blocks. We loved Munich and would stay at The Torbrau again for sure.
