This hotel has a great location. When we stayed here it was the hight of summer and this hotel has no air con! So it was a bit unbearabel at times, but this is common in most german hotels. The only bonus is that the floors are tiled in the rooms not carpeted! The hotel is located in the ciy centre, only a few streets away for the famous cathedral and the various restraunts and bars within walking distance. I would recommend this hotel, just not during June, July or August, as the heat was too much.
My husband and I have just returned from a 3 day stay in Cologne, staying at Hotel Caprice. The location of the hotel is excellent, in the old town and literally 2 minute walk from the river, 5 minutes from the Dom and 5 minutes from the shops.
The hotel itself was ok. There was a kind of peroxide smell as you entered the foyer for the 3 days we were there, which was a bit off puting but thankfully no other part of the building smelled like this.
The room was very clean with ceramic floor tiles and the shower was really powerful. The downside was that although our room faced onto a courtyard, it was very noisy into the early hours of the morning, sometimes as late as 5am due to a pub just outside. Don't know if it would be like that all the time, maybe it was just because its Christmas time.
The breakfast was good, but the breakfast room was far too small. There wasn't enough room for everyone and there was only one member of staff working so you had to wait for glasses, cutlery etc to be replaced - again ,this might have been because the hotel was busy due to the Christmas Markets.
Overall our stay wasn't bad but I'm not sure we would stay there again. It was reasonable value for money so I guess you get what you pay for.
Christmas markets in Köln (Cologne) Germany Posted: Thu, Jan 24 2008
Location: 4Rooms: 2Service: 2Value: 2
Stayed but one night in a family room (converted attic, 4th floor) where the under floor heating was not working. The outside temperature dropped to -1C and additional duvets 'were not available'. After much discussion, in German, with Reception, two electric space heaters were delivered to the rooms. The fan in one unit was detached from the motor, rendering the heater useless. The staff clearly knew the heating was not operating as other rooms were also given heaters. Expressing displeasure with Reception the whilst checking-out (same person still on the desk), apologies were offered and nothing more.
Breakfast was included in the price of the rooms and at 149EUR for four, great value for money.
Would recommend for Spring and Fall but the 7 Cologne Christmas markets are not about during those periods.
Centrally located to city tourist areas.
