How do you keep a 40 year motel cleaner than brand new? Ask the management. All I want when I travel is clean, neat and at a good price. This is it. This is the cleanest place I have ever stayed. The Highbrook is an easy walk (about a mile) from Bar Harbor. They have an upper building, built in the 60’s and the main office, lower building, built in the 50’s. We stayed in the upper but I’ll guarantee the lower is just as nice. The place is a little dated / retro if that is an issue for you but I felt like I was staying at Grandma’s. The chairs on the porch are a nice feature and the staff was extremely helpful with dinner suggestions and a corkscrew that we had forgotten.

Modern, beautiful, quite, absolutely clean, and free wireless internet connection. We did not expect so much for the very reasonable price paid. Cordially recommended to all our friends!

Okay
Double check the rate

We liked the location and setting of this motel, convenient to the park, ferry to Nova Scotia, and Bar Harbor. The accommodations were very clean, spacious, and up to date. The beds were comfortable. Five of us stayed here in two rooms the night before we took the ferry to N.S. and then again a week later on the night we returned from N.S.

What we didn't like needs a little history to explain: in summary, our reservations had been made by phone, using a credit card for guarantee, before the start of our trip, and we had been told the first night's rate would be $109/ea. and the same rooms one week later would be $79/ea. When we asked why the difference in rate, we were told the seasonal rate change occurs during that week, and of course, we were pleased. But, when we checked in the second week, we were not given the $79. rate so we mentioned our understanding from the orignial phone call reserving the dates. We were asked in an accusatory tone, "did you get it in writing?" The two woman waiting to check in behind us overheard this remark and interjected that they also had the understanding the $79. rate was in effect. It was with GREAT reluctance that the young man serving us gave us the lower rate, and at no time did he give any rationale for the sudden change in rate policy which he was applying only to us. We were uncomfortable by the clear capriciousness of our treatment, and if the other patrons had not added their comments we would have either gone to find other lodging or paid the higher rate. All five of us had the same impression that some preconceived notion was being used towards us, and we can only speculate what that could all be about. We disliked this experience intensely, were embarrassed by the need to address the rate diparity to such an extent, and it affected our enjoyment of the Bar Harbor area visit.
