Novotel Koln City - Cologne, Germany

It was the first time I stayed at this hotel. it was for business and most of the day I was not in but when I returned to it every night I was not pleased with the straight faces that welcomed me. A smile is not on the price I paid I assume, and asking for the launderette service or the wifi in room was perceived as an act of interrupting the quite life they were having behind the desk. They could not be bothered with giving the extra service that makes you feel welcome when you out travelling. Definitely they all need some training.

Clean, spacious, modern hotel with very competent staff. Not exactly on the waterfront as depicted on the photos. Good value for price. Would defintely stay there again.

Lots Of construction going on in the area, but still very quiet and clean. Slept well but it was a long walk to the tourist sights and train station

This hotel is pretty unexceptional - but I had an enjoyable stay and few complaints. It is clean, well maintained, with basic modern furniture. The bed was very comfortable, the room a decent size, and the bathroom was very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was fairly good, with a wide buffet selection, and for an additional two euros it can be delivered to your room. I would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room - I found it odd that these were absent. What this hotel doesn't have is any character. But it is well located, next to the Ubierrung tram stop where you can get trams all over Cologne, and there are some very nice bars and Bistros in the Sudstadt of the city - I would highly recommend Capricorn-Aries brasseries in Aldeburger Str, and Dialog Bistro and bar in the same street. There are also some restaurants and bars with Rhine views opening up next to the Rhine, opposite the hotel. All in all, I'd stay there again for a hassle free visit to Cologne.
