I was a bit wary about booking this hotel after reading the reviews but every other hotel I tried was either fully booked or too expensive so I didn't really have much choice. We arrived 2hours late (2.00am) after a flight delay. Our booking was honoured and we checked in no problem. The room size was ok although the bathroom was a little small but how much time are you going to spend in there anyway?! Good location, close to hauptbahnhof and within walking distance off all the sights. Ask for a complementary street map at reception. It is possible to hear the trains at night (Cologne is a very busy station) but we had 3 nights undisturbed sleep. Yes, there are better hotels in Cologne but for 79 Euros a night including breakfast there's little to complain about.

Little disappointed

The hotel was not the tree star level as I expected. I'd give two and my room mate suggested one and a half stars for this hotel. Situation was not that bad. Only 100m from railway station and 10 minutes walk to the old town and shopping area. 10-15 minutes to Köln fair centre. There were lot of small hotels in this area. We arrived at 6pm and we were given an unmade room. So, one phonecall and we were driven out to wait about 30-40 minutes to room to be made. After that it was okay. Room was small as expected. Toilet was too small for a big guy (190cm, 100kg's) like me. The sink was strategically badly situated when you tried to sit down to a toilet seat. Also, when one took a shower, you had to take off your socks when using the toilet if you didn't want them to get wet. Soundproofing was not that good. I could easily hear what time Düsseldofr train was announced to leave the station. Breakfast was okay. Something to choose from and enough to fill my appetite. Points to the staff. They were friendly. All in all, next time I take some other hotel and try to find it on the other side of the tracks.

On the other side of the tracks....

I stayed at the hotel in Dec. 2003. The hotel is located near the train station.... but not in the best part of town. The large church and shopping district is on one side of the tracks, and this hotel is on the other. It was a little confusing trying to find this hotel, even with a map. The streets seemed to be at an odd angle. The staff at the hotel were nice, but even they recommended not drinking at nearby bars. I could also hear the trains at night.
