"Fantastic Hotel Elysee"Posted: Wed, Dec 31 1969Value:
3Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from three nights at the Hotel Elysee. I cannot praise it enough. From the moment we arrived we were given five star treatment. The staff were the friendliest I have ever experienced in any hotel worldwide.
The rooms were immaculate. Fantastic power shower and deep bath.
Breakfast was the best I ever had. There was a huge variety to chose from inc eggs, sausages and bacon and the orange juice was to die for, a machine squeezes the sweetest of oranges in front of you, we couldn't get enough of it. It fills you up for the day.
The bar at night time is great. Gorgeous coctails and delicious German beer for approx 2.50 euro a glass. The staff in the bar are very entertaining especially Sven who puts his heart into making the best of coctails.
The location of the hotel is in a very upper class area, 5 minutes walk to the U-Bahn, there are also taxi's permantly outside the front door to take you to wherever you want to go. They cost approx 4 euro's. We were originally going to book the Royal Meridian but its in a seedier part of town near the Reeperbahn, full of strip shows etc.
Do make sure to visit the bar at the top of the Radisson down the street for some great views across the city. It opens at 9.30pm and the music is loud but the views are worth it.
The city itself was so clean and very safe.Lots of interesting things to do. Make sure to get a cruise boat at the harbour. To tour the second largest port in Europe is fascinating. The ships are massive! You can have drinks on board which makes it even more pleasant but we ended up on a boat with German commentary, if you can get an English commentary boat, as we would have loved to know more about the docks.
There are great places to eat out in Hamburg. We recommend the Block House, of which there are many, and which as it so happens are owned by Eugene Block who also owns the Grand Elysee. Mareno's restaurants are also to be recommended.
All in all I loved The Grand Elysee and I loved friendly Hamburg even though it was raining for two of the days. I will definitly return one day and I will definitly stay at the Grand Hotel Elysee. It was without doubt the best hotel I have stayed in throughout Europe! By the way we booked through e-bookers and got the three nights inc breakfast for 480 euros, and saved a fortune!
Go and enjoy!
