i stayed here for 1 night ( sat 24 feb 2007).
Straight away i was impressed by the entrance, grand lobby and refreshing warm welcome. check in was easy, hassle free and we were escorted to the room in an old fashioned but cute lift.
The room overlooked a quiet courtyard - fine. it awas large, it had a very large and amazing bathroom. i liked the bathroom more than the room because the style of the room, and this goes for most of them is really old, old world. think dorchester and the savoy in london but a far more ancient look. the furniture is antique hence aged wood, scratch marks and very dated. The rooms are very clean. not very modern. but adequate. horrid curtains. I found the spa was superb - london prices. the jahreszeitan grill amazing - a faultless and delicious lunch there. the service exceeding way beyond 5 star. My only real disappointment was the room. It made me feel old and i also think that this hotel suits the 50+ age group as that pretty much made up all the guests staying there. The style of the hotel would suit the very mature traveller. Unbeatable location, a michelen starred restaurant - haerlin. The hotel has a great deal going for it but the style was not for me.
Lovely hotel, great ambience, great personnel, great bar....historic, the kind of place you dont see every day...compares to the Adlon in Berlin. This was my third stay in Hamburg and this one was by far the best. The hotel caters to people who expect greatness and it certainly delivered. I had no idea that the Savoy in London is owned by Fairmont ...that is another favorite.
Wonderful hotel all around. From the doorman who spoke your language without a verbal signal from the guest, to the employees who cleaned the rooms - all wonderful.
This was a very enjoyable two nights. The hotel itself is excellent, and in a great spot for exploring Hamburg.
The rooms are good, the service is great.
For a treat, visit the Grill Restaurant - it's expensive but worth every euro cent.
