Central Hotel - Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany     

We stayed here for 3 nights on holiday and were very happy with our choice of hotel. The location was ideal for strolling to restaurants and shops in the centre of Freiburg (no distance at all, just round the corner). It was too hot to sleep much on the first night even with the window wide open, we asked for a fan for the remaining nights which the staff were quick to provide. The rooms were in good condition, the woodwork being fairly old but smart. The beds, carpet and the shower-rooms were great -looked like new. The shower had very good pressure. The breakfast room was extremely attractive and tastefully decorated. The buffet breakfast (included in the room price) was very enjoyable, nicely presented and the service was generally very courteous and welcoming. Certain foods were depleted quite quickly like the fresh fruit salad (delicious!), the staff generally always eventually replenished these. There were bananas and apples left out for guests in reception near the staircase and lift which was a nice touch. To park in their garage (8euro per night) required stopping each time outside the hotel and going to reception to ask for the magnetic key which you then returned after parking. Availability does not seem to be guaranteed (check this if you book) as there are over 40 rooms in the hotel and not very many car parking spaces. There were stairs and a lift from the garage direct to the hotel. The computer outside the breakfast area was available for guests to use and was useful in checking attractions and the weather etc. We only saw the manageress once; she was extremely friendly and welcoming. Overall a very nice place to stay if you want to stay right by the centre of Freiburg. The hotel is not architecturally interesting and neither is the road its on, but it is literally round the corner from the beautiful part of the centre of Freiburg and provides comfortable and welcoming accommodation. I would stay there again if I needed to stay in central Freiburg.
