The Falcon Hotel details: The Falcon Hotel at Uppingham welcomes business travellers and leisure guests alike. The hotel offers hospitality in the traditional sense.

The Falcon Hotel, originally a renowned 16th century coaching inn of great character and charm. Today the newly refurbished Falcon Hotel remains very much a living institution and focal point for the local community, offering our guests the combination of traditional English hospitality and service coupled with all modern facilities. Each of our 25 individually appointed rooms have their own private bathrooms and are equipped with direct dial telephones suitable for use with guests own computers, satellite television with radio and alarm, and hospitality tray. Our Superior bedrooms and range of suites, including the Apple Suite with its own sitting room and private garden, and our honeymoon suite with an original Elizabethan four-poster bed and cornered Jacuzzi bath, offer guests additional levels of comfort. The Tap Bar has for many years proved to be a popular local meeting place, serving fine real ales and bar meals, alternatively there is the comfortable Brasserie lounge serving full meals and bar service. Both these areas have tremendous atmosphere in the winter evenings with their log fires blazing away. The elegant Garden Terrace Restaurant offers the attractions of fine food and wines in delightful surroundings, making it a popular eating place for hotel guests and non-residents. During the Summer months the beautifully cared for gardens at the rear of the hotel provide an excellent setting for both meals or just relaxing over drinks. Our full size antique Snooker table has been beautifully restored and is available for guests use. Whether your function is for business or pleasure, the Falcon Hotel has three well-appointed suites all with natural daylight. Each has been faithfully restored to create the appropriate ambience according to the mood and style of the occasion. Weddings and private dinners can be accommodated for up to 140 guests, meetings for up to 60.

We decided to book the Falcon hotel for the weekend of the Burghley Horse Trials as my event horse was competing and my daughter and her husband who live in Yorkshire were joining us on this exciting occassion . We all know the Falcon as both my daughter and her husband went to Uppingham school in the 90's and my youngest son was there until in the late 90's. So, we all had an enormous shock when we arrived to what has become a filthy, uncared for hotel. The 2 bed rooms we were given for the price of £95 per room were a disgrace. Dirty bathrooms, old worn towels, carpets stained with mold at the back of the loo and shower tiles dirty and stained . The diningroom carpet was old matting which was full of black stains and the place where they serve snacks and breakfast in the bar had dead baskets of plants on the window sills. When I asked the manager about this he started to rant about me only wanting money off the rooms and he said he 'refused to listen 'to any of this criticism of his hotel and just walked out of the hotel front door! In the morning when we checked out he he had taken £20 off of each room . As we left to get our car in the car park I also noticed that the doors were filthy where you put your hand to open them. All that requied was someone to use a cloth and some ajax to clean it off. It is a very sad state of affairs when a hotel can charge people £95 for a small dirty room and get away with it.

We went to stay at the Falcon this weekend and all I can say was that it was a disaster. We used to go to Uppingham 10 years ago and had fond memories of the town and of the Falcon hotel. However, the hotel has just been left to mould and ruin. I cannot say a positive comment about the place. The rooms stank, were old and delapidated and the lounge and restaurant areas are falling apart and unwelcoming. As the manager was away, we felt sorry for the staff who were left to hold the place together and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. We therefore paid the full room rate, but i have to say it was the worst £90 I have ever spent! The manager needs to take a serious look at the place and get renovating. He should not be surprised if every visitor complains. We certainly will not be returning.
