Location

Killarney was discovered as a picturesque and peaceful haven by the monks in the Middle Ages and by the governing English Overlords as early as the 16th century. Its fame as an internationally renowned tourist destination dates back to the visit of Queen Victoria. Killarney is now Ireland's most popular tourist destination and has an impressive range of attractions to support its world famous claim. There is the spectacular scenery where lakes, mountains, waterfalls and parkland blend into a majestic pastoral tapestry. Then there is the town, bustling with energy with its shops, pubs and lively entertainment. The pastoral and wooded landscapes provide idyllic lakeside walks through the hotel’s own grounds and the adjoining National Park.

Just returned from a 3 day stay at the Castlerosse Hotel in Killarney with my partner and two children, I knew we were in trouble before we arrived when the hotel did not reply to any of my emails sent to confirm our arrival. When we did arrive we found the reception staff to be rude, impatient and unhelpfull, I had to carry two large suitcases down two flights of stairs myself while three members of staff looked on in amusement with no intention of helping. We had booked three nights stay with two evening meals, we had dinner in the restaurant the first night and it was like going back to the seventies menu wise, I will not go into details suffice as to say we ate out on the following nights. we had booked a family room but were given a triple room with a camp bed thrown in the corner, it was a tight squeeze. The decor of the whole place is drab and dated and considering what we paid it was a major let down. I should have known better really as i am originally from Kerry myself and I should have asked some local advice first before booking, my advice is that there are a lot of hotels in Killarney and try and get local advice if you can before booking, I know this is difficult if you are travelling from the U.S etc.
