Location

Situated on the outskirts of the Dresdner Heide (Dresden Heath), Alberstadt is one of Germany’s largest garrison cities. It developed at the end of the 19th century.

We stayed here in December of 2004 when we were in Dresden for less than 24 hours to attend a show, there were limited options available for us, usually extremely budget minded travellers and this was a bit of a treat, a more moderately priced hotel. We were a little disappointed with the location of the hotel and the fact that we did not receive a breakfast. Around midnight, after the show the only place we could find food was the MacDonalds across a very busy 4 lane road directly opposite the hotel. The place did feel like it was a bit, in the middle of nowhere but it was December, below freezing and we had been travelling for nearly 30 hours so maybe more awake travellers would have managed to scout around a bit more, who knows maybe there was a very happening nightlife just around the corner. Otherwise the hotel room itself was warm, functional and clean, no reason to criticise at all. However, if we were to go back to Dresden we would try to find something more close to the 'old town'.
