Hotel zur Post - Bernkastel-Kues, Germany 

Based on the feedback on this website about the hotel, my family and I were looking forward to a wonderful stay at the Zur Post. Unfortanetly, from the moment we stepped in the hotel it was bad. We were greeted by an extremely unfriendly woman, who claimed that she didn't have our two room reservation. Fortantely, I had printed out my email confirmation from the hotel. Only once she saw the confirmation, did she pull out the paper copy of our reservation. It seemed a bit fishy to me. We went up to our rooms and they were very dark and dingy. The bathrooms were dirty and even though it was a "non-smoking" room, it smelled as if someone just smoked a pack in the room. The room facing the street was very noisy. We heard every car that went by, as well as every conversation people had in the hallway and the rooms next to us. The only thing I can say semi-positive things about was the breakfast. It was standard.

This beautiful little hotel, originally the postal stop in Bernkastel, was highly recommended by a previous review. On the strength of this five of us reserved rooms for a two-day stay. It did not let us down one bit. We arrived a tad late, about 8:30 or 9:00, and the owner not only welcomed us, but had kept the kitchen open especially for us. We found this to be a charming and attractive inn, just a block or so from the main shopping area. The rooms were neat and clean and the food was delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.
