NH Stuttgart Airport - Filderstadt, Germany 

First of all I have to say, that reading the other comment on this hotel makes me think, that we stayed in two different hotels. The one I stayed in seemed brand new and was very modern. The reception area and the rooms are very stylish and functional. The room was very comfortable (great beds, flat-screen TV, sparkeling bathroom) and equiped with AC. Even though the hotel is very close to a highway, I did not hear anything in my room. The breakfast was above average with a huge choice. The only draw-back is the location. It's approx. 6 km from the airport / new fair ground. This distance may be covered with the hotel shuttle service (bus - free of charge). Getting to downtown Stuttgart is not that convenient as you would have to take the bus to the airport first and then the S-Bahn (communter rail) for another 20 minutes. The cap was 40 Euro one way.

The Hotel am Schinderbuckel looks alright from the outside, but from there on it's downhill all the way. Gloomy wood veneered rooms, stained carpets and just two coat hangers in the wardrobe. Carpets in the corridors were equally grubby. The rooms was blessed with an ancient non-functioning radio alarm clock, non-functioning that is in all respects apart from a loud, disturbing ticking emanating from it, calculated to disturb all but the heaviest of sleepers. Light switches looked as though they were added as an afterthought, some in horizontal position, some vertical. The bathroom contained one miniature soap but no other amenities. Anyone paying list price of Eur 99-149, plus breakfast Eur 13 extra, will feel sorely cheated. The hotel seems to cater for tour group bus stop-overs, in my experience a feature often leading to indifferent quality and service standards. Anybody who experienced Russian Intourist hotels in the time of the Soviet Union will feel at home in the Hotel am Schinderbuckel. If you're not looking for this form of nostalgia avoid it at all costs
