Location

Poreč is a town of true hospitality and a rich tourist tradition. It is located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula and abounds with clean sea and beaches.

A stroll down the centuries old streets leads to the square, Marafor, in which there was once a forum in ancient times. The central Poreč street, Decumanus, has been preserved from the time when Poreč was an ancient port. Along with the museums and galleries located in beautiful town palaces, you must visit the Euphrasian Basilica. A glittering mosaic which covers the inside and facade of the church is one of the most beautiful preserved works of Byzantine art.

The concrete beach is 150 metres from the hotel. Escape the heat in the natural shade of the pine trees. The beach is well equipped with changing cabins, showers and a sports centre.

Where to start? Firstly, it is essential, at all costs that you avoid room no 105. You will be kept awake all night by a mysterious very loud humming/buzzing noise. Plus the balcony view is atrocious. The hotel is kept clean, although our room cleaner wasn't the best. The best part of staying at the Pical is, undoubtedly the food. It would certainly grace a 5* hotel. From beautiful mussels to shark, from tender pork to excellent soups, it is all there. Unfortunately, from my viewpoint, there was a mini disaster. The hotel ran out of Corn Flakes - I just do not know how this is possible. The reception staff - again all were excellent. I was surprised to note the Noddy (toy) train now only runs every 40 minutes, and no longer takes you into the centre of Porec which unfortunately since my last visit has sucummbed to a proliferation of tatty touristy shops selling very poor quality goods. Still, Porec is still a wonderful place to visit, Hotel Pical a very good hotel to stay in.

Generally good hotel, food etc very good, entertainment about average for this type of holiday, very clean and as we had a sea view room on 4th floor lovely sunsets and views. We went with Thomsons and their brochure didn't mention that this hotel was unsuitable for people with walking difficulties. Well it is unsuitable because the dining room can only be reached by climbing 23 steps and has no lift and the bath is very high although the Thomson rep. got the hotel to provide a step(which was a lump of concrete wrapped in a towel)!
